Calculate the LACE Index score for an acute hospital cohort

Evaluates the standard bedside LACE index (0-19):

• L: Length of stay (0 to 7 pts: <1d=0, 1d=1, 2d=2, 3d=3, 4-6d=4, 7-13d=5, >=14d=7)

• A: Acuity of admission (3 pts if emergency admission, 0 otherwise)

• C: Charlson Comorbidity Index (0 to 5 pts: 0=0, 1=1, 2=2, 3=3, >=4=5)

• E: Emergency department visits in prior 6 months (0 to 4 pts: 0=0, 1=1, 2=2, 3=3, >=4=4)

Usage

calculate_lace_index(con, cohort_table = "cohort")

Arguments

con

Active DuckDB connection with CDM tables.

cohort_table

Cohort table or view name containing subject_id/person_id and cohort_start_date.

Value

A data.frame with cohort keys, predictor components, lace_score, and lace_risk.

Details

Risk stratification:

• Low: 0-4

• Moderate: 5-9

• High: >= 10
